Stopwatches And Their Many Uses
By Oliver Richard
Stopwatches have many uses, but nonetheless the main function is to keep and measure time. This is why coaches, athletes and sports times use stopwatches to set up time indications or keep track of progress by using the clocked times for future reference. However, other types of stopwatches also have other purposes.
A stopwatch is basically just a hand held device that's used as a timer for various sports activities. From track & field activities, swimming, motor & car racing, etc, this kind of watch is highly useful for evaluation during training sessions.
Normally, a stopwatch is started manually during the start of an event, and then stopped whenever the said event is over. An example of this is when a runner runs towards a given distant point, the stopwatch is pressed once. When the runner has reached the destination, the stopwatch is pressed again to mark the time in which it took the runner to get there. Coaches and trainers use stopwatches to assess the performance of their athlete.
Stopwatches can be either analog or digital and it usually is similar to a regular pocket watch. However, there are also stopwatches that can be worn on the wrist. The large clocks used in sports arenas or stadiums, such as for hockey or basketball games, are known as stop clocks.
When it comes down to accuracy then the digital stopwatch is the one. The analog stopwatch is commonly used as a gift for either the coach or trainer when one kind or another sport championship has been won. It is an attractive gift designed in silver casings.
Depending on the design and model, a more modern stopwatch can have a lot of functions, modes, and other features. However, this doesn't mean that the traditional stopwatch is rendered obsolete. A conventional stopwatch still serves its true purpose of doing countdowns, recording running times, and lap times. On the other hand, modern stopwatches have features that allow for easier access and better accuracy apart from the basic functions of keeping track of individual laps and events to accumulate overall evaluations.
Some models are capable of storing up to 50 lap times, whereas other stopwatches can only save up to 10. Some of the digital stopwatches also calculate the speed and time if you know what the distance of a lane or track is. All you have to do is enter the distance and the stopwatch will do the rest, like evaluating previous records for a particular athlete and then providing you with the average time in minutes or seconds that is taken to cover the entered distance.
Finally, the basic function of a stopwatch is as a countdown timer. The watch basically counts down to zero by setting it to a specific amount of time at the press of a button. Stopwatches are also used by coaches, trainers, and athletes to measure a workout regimen as well as an indicator that a specific exercise has exceeded a warm up period.

Why Should You Invest in a Karaoke Amplifier?
By Jonathon Hardcastle
A karaoke amplifier is designed especially for karaoke machines; but you may wonder if you truly need one. While an amplifier can be designed for home use, most are for karaoke DJs. They have more features than a traditional public address system and they ease the process of setting up and taking down a karaoke setup.
These features typically include features that any DJ would appreciate. For example, many of the karaoke amplifiers are considered hybrid amplifiers because they have features normally associated with pre-amps.
One of these features is multiple inputs so you can send audio signals from multiple sources. This eliminates the need for a mixer if you have two audio sources, such as the karaoke source and an iPod for filler music. Many of these units also include a radio tuner.
A standard karaoke amplifier should be able to run at least four speakers effectively. As the general rule of thumb, a good setup includes two main speakers, a monitor speaker, and a subwoofer. Sound will get out to your audience when the subwoofer and main speakers work together.
The monitor speaker enables the karaoke singer to hear themselves. The best applications, like amplifiers, for DJs have a built-in crossover; this means the subwoofer's low frequencies only go to the subwoofer and this keeps them separate from the rest of the mix. Since higher frequencies don't need as much power, you can run the monitor and main speakers on the same channel.
In terms of watts, your amplifier must be matched to your speakers and so forth. It doesn't need to be by much, but the speakers must be able to handle more power than an amplifier can put out. For example, a 400 or 450 watt speaker is needed for an amplifier that can put out a total of 300 watts.
On the other hand, if you have an amplifier that can put out 800 watts, the speakers should be able to handle 1,000 watts. On that same note, you need multiple speakers when running that many watts. In this event, you can add the wattage of each speaker and combine them together to determine how much they can handle as a pair. For example, an 800 watt amplifier can have two 450 watt speakers or another similar combination like four 200 watt speakers
Keep these figures in mind when buying a subwoofer because you don't want to run a 1,500 watt subwoofer on a 300 watt amplifier. If you do, you won't get the best sound quality and may even burn out the amplifier because more power is needed than what is being provided.

Home Theater Systems
By Weston Rice
When you enter a entertainment center area of a downtown consumer electronics outlet store, the plethora of options are overwhelming. Everything is shimmering under fluorescent lights, quite new and shining, every system clearly telling you to "buy me, buy me." Even before you reach that milestone of the process, there are several other things that you need to first understand in order to help you make the correct decision for you home theater and for your wallet.
The first thing you need to do is decide what area your home with house your new entertainment theater system. Keep in mind that if you are looking for a large flat screen television around 45 to 55 inches, the best distance for optimal viewing is around 11 to 12 feet. Don't put a 55 inch TV into a smaller room because you will be gravely disappointed and the screen will actually look too sharp and too crisp, believe it or not. However, if you decide you would like a smaller screen, say, 30-40 inches, then it would be ideal for a smaller living room or larger bedroom.
You will have to decide on which kind of TV you want. Plasma and LCD televisions provide the sharpest and clearest pictures. DLP and rear projection televisions can be somewhat less expensive, but a major negative point is the viewing angle. DLP and rear projections don't give a nice picture when viewing from an angle. Also, make sure your target room where the entertainment center is placed has the appropriate angle. This should help you in your decision on with home theater system to purchase.
One other significant aspect is the receiver. Some receivers for entertainment centers have outputs and inputs for a satellite dish and a cable TV hookups, as well as inputs for several kinds of other things, such as media players (VCR and DVD players) and even PC hookups.
Some even have a built-in radio, although these are becoming less common. One of the newer additions to receivers is the ability to play XM radio, although XM radio will require a monthly subscription. So with all these choices, you need to evaluate what is important to you, as well as what you will actually USE. There is little sense, for example, in equipping the receiver with XM radio if you will never or rarely use that option.
